2012 International Residency Opportunities

IRThe purpose of NCECA is to promote and improve the ceramic arts through education, research and creative practice. One of the many ways that NCECA supports its members is by providing opportunities to engage in international programs. Intercultural exchange of ideas and methods is critical to evolution of individual artists who through their immersion and experimentation, absorb and sometimes transform influences of other artists and their cultures. Since launching this initiative, NCECA has participated in programs in Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe.
For 2012 we are excited about offering international residency opportunities to A.I.R. Vallauris in France, Zentrum fur Keramik in Germany, and The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan.

NCECA is pleased to announce the formation of a Past Masters Advisory Committee, whose members Fellow of the Council, Marlene Jack; studio potters, Malcolm Davis and John Britt, are joining Programs Director Steve Hilton and President Keith Williams to identify and gather information on leading figures in the ceramic field to be memorialized during the upcoming conference and through NCECA publications. A new submission form to receive contributions should be available in the open calls section of NCECA's website beginning the week of December 5.

Submission requirements will include a brief 50 word statement on why you think the nominee is worthy of inclusion, an expanded 500 word statement that provides detail on the individual's contributions to the ceramics field and a minimum of 3 and maximum of 20 images. Names and contact information for up to three additional people that could help provide additional information may also be submitted.

Because of pressing publication deadlines submissions received by December 15 may be eligible to be included in the 2012 Program Guide or Journal. Virtual Benefit Drinking Vessel Exhibition

cupThe opportunity to make a purchase from NCECA's first-ever Benefit Drinking Vessels Exhibition curated by Pete Pinnell is soon coming to a close on Friday, December 16 at midnight, Mountain Time Zone. Thanks to the generosity of the participating artists, NCECA's members and friends the project has raised nearly $1500 to benefit NCECA's Fund for Artistic Development which helps support student fellowships and international residency awards. As of Thursday, December 1, 26 exceptional works of ceramic art remain available for purchase at price points ranging from $35- $250 plus shipping and handling. NCECA has also posted a PowerPoint file featuring images of the donated works with accompanying reflective statements from some of the ceramic artists. Time is running out to visit the exhibition on-line and add to your collection while helping NCECA and fellow ceramic artists.
